2011 Acura RL Sedan

2011 Acura RL Review Sedan

On paper, looks like the 2011 Acura RL luxury sedan as a medium highly desirable. It has a 300 hp V6, standard AWD, a long list of standard equipment, a chic interior and high-end quality construction. But when it comes to the real world desirable, get something lost in the translation of this flagship Acura.

Styling might have something to do with the lack of appeal RL. Overall, the exterior looks a little dated, and many of its rivals have fresher and more modern lines. Overall, this car is aging and needs a new face. The 2011 RL receives a few changes here and there, and at least the odd grille was a bit tame.

Acura RL also has replaced the previous five-speed automatic the new six-speed transmission. Fuel economy is as a result (another 2 mpg on the highway) and the acceleration would be a bit 'faster. The management is still commendable attribute of RL, the car thanks to the Advanced Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) system capable of distributing torque to the wheels as well as individuals to improve grip and handling balance.

Even with these changes, 2011 RL still struggles to be anything but a bench player in the segment of luxury cars. Hyundai Genesis is fully competitive in terms of luxury, but still significantly lower rate RL. Meanwhile, more traditional (and newer) that the choice of the Audi A6, BMW 5 Series, Infiniti M37 and Mercedes E-class is either sports or prestige. Even Acura TL is much the same size as the RL, has a similar engine and yet it is more than $ 10,000 cheaper. With so many other cars to choose from, it's really not so surprising that RL is lost in the mix.

Body styles, trim levels and options

In 2011 Acura RL luxury sedan is a mid-size, available in three trim levels (the two upper trim is really just a couple of technological packages).

Penal Code contains a standard 18-inch alloy wheels, automatic xenon headlights, sunroof, keyless ignition / entry, heated front seats feature 10 pieces with driver memory, power tilt and telescopic steering wheel, upholstery leather, dual-zone automatic climate control, rear climate control seats, auto-dimming mirror, power rear sunshade and manual rear side sunshades.

Also standard are Bluetooth phone connectivity and audio, voice commands for audio and climate systems and a 10-speaker Bose surround sound system with six CD player, satellite radio, an auxiliary input jack and a USB audio / iPod .

The RL with Technology Package adds adaptive headlights, a rearview camera, rear parking sensors, heated front seats with heating and ventilation, a wood grain wheel steering and shift knob, update Bluetooth phone connectivity, GPS related to the solar climate control and detection of a navigation system in real-time traffic, weather in real time, Zagat restaurant ratings and voice activation. The RL with Advance Package adds adaptive cruise control and brake system to mitigate collisions (CMBS), and power folding outside mirrors.

Engines and performance

Every 2010 Acura RL comes with Acura's "Super Handling" all-wheel drive system that automatically distributes power to the drive wheels and handling to react to road conditions to provide high quality car at all times.

2011 Acura RL Power is a 3.7-liter V6 that delivers 300 horsepower and 271 pound-feet of torque. The new six-speed automatic with manual shift controls standard. EPA estimates fuel economy mpg is 17 mpg city/24 highway and 20 mpg combined.

Security

The standard safety features for the Acura RL include antilock disc brakes with brake assist, side airbags for front seats, full-length side curtain airbags, active head restraints and stability control system. CMBS option can help prevent or minimize a collision, providing warnings to the driver or the fact of applying emergency braking if a collision seems inevitable.

The RL has not been evaluated by the use of the new government, more difficult 2011, crash test procedures. His notes from 2010 (which are not comparable with the evidence of 2011) resulted in five-star front and side safety. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety awarded the RL its top rating of "Good" in frontal crash tests and side of compensation. He has scored the second-worst rating of "marginal," however, evidence of roof strength.

In the braking test, the RL delivered lackluster 131-foot stop 60 mph. Record results from most competitors', which are 10 meters shorter.

Interior Design and Special Features

The 2011 Acura RL offers an attractive and well built cabin, which is comparable to most luxury sedans. The wood trim - simulated or real, depending on trim level model - the frameworks of the center console cascading style, adding heat to the interior design.

There are a few buttons and knobs in the cabin, but the voice activation system and control of the steering wheel forward for easier operation. We found the standard 10-speaker Bose audio system with a particularly notable for its clarity and effectiveness. On the downside, the navigation system of the graphics seem outdated compared to the luxury sedan competitors. Luggage space leaves little to be desired, to just below the average of 13.1 cubic meters.

Driving Impressions

Rather conservative appearance Acura RL 2011 may lead some to think that the ride quality and driving dynamics may be more like a luxury car too soft. But they were wrong. Ride quality is a balance between respect for the luxury and sporty agility. Thanks to the SH-AWD, the RL is one of the most fun to drive of choice in the segment. RL regime V6 provides smooth acceleration and a little faster this year with the new six-speed transmission.
