Abarth Punto Evo 2010 Review

The new 165 hp 1.4 petrol engine with Turbo MultiAir is the result of the successful union of the powertrain technology (FPT) and the work of Abarth engineers. Since its introduction last year at the Geneva Motor Show, Abarth engineers began working on this new technology to improve performance and make it a real Abarth.

MultiAir marked a break with the normal stage gasoline engine. Compared with a conventional gasoline engine of equivalent size, a MultiAir engine develops more power (up to 10%) and torque (up to 15%), while consuming less fuel (up to 10%) and emit less CO2 (up to 10%).

In the heart of MultiAir is a new electro-hydraulic valve management that allows a reduction in fuel consumption and emissions of air pollutants directly control via the intake valves of the engine without using the accelerator. From this starting Abarth engineering studies and many technical tests before finally produces innovative MultiAir 16v 165 hp 1400. Tuning was done with great care by the engineers who used a new oversized Garrett turbine to ensure victory and athletic performance: a maximum torque of 250 Nm (25.5 kgm) at 2250 rpm for an acceleration of 0-100 km / h in just 7.9 seconds.

As a true sports car, the Abarth Punto Evo is equipped with a driver-controlled system that manages the engine, brakes and steering, which allows two different modes based on the behavior of the vehicle driving the best situation or the customer's wishes: Super Sport (Sports) and urban (Normal).

Selector is located in an ergonomic - in front of the gear selector is in the tunnel - and allows the driver to choose between two operating modes, simply by moving the lever (the choice displayed a message on the control panel). Detail, if you want to get a relaxing drive safely, you can choose between normal mode, but if you want to use the Abarth Punto Evo for a sportier ride, move the position of Sports. This makes the car more responsive, and make electric power steering has been modified to increase the feeling of sportiness load. Greater attention is also paid to security, and automatic activation of the TTC system.

The driver attended the rally style, with a Gear Shift Indicator (GSI). This intuitive "co-pilot" driver-Abarth Punto Evo offers suggestions on a good time to get around the fuel to keep the bottom using a message on the control panel.

Abarth Punto 1.4 petrol engine Multiair Ages is to improve the innovative & Stop. The device monitors the temporary resumption of the engine cut-off and following the minimum at a standstill. In these situations, typical of heavy traffic in urban areas and when stopped at traffic lights, the system automatically stops the engine when the control strategy can reduce fuel consumption and emissions by up to 10% in urban areas and 3, 5% of the grade during the NEDC.

As soon as the brake pedal or a gear engaged, the system starts the engine quickly to provide immediate feedback to the user's control. If the engine is turned off accidentally (box), the setting of traffic, can be restarted by simply pressing the clutch.

Start & Stop system offers additional advantages of cabin comfort, because there is no vibration or noise.

The system interacts with the driver is informed of the use of the device using the messages from the control panel and can always turn it off using a control panel near the steering wheel.

The innovative multi power unit ensures sporting performance with low emissions and low fuel consumption. In tests conducted by the Abarth engineers, fuel economy has improved in spite of the high performance motor sport. Specifically, the fuel consumption is 8.1 l/100 km in city driving, 6.0 l/100 km combined cycle and 4.8 l/100 km in the extra urban cycle. MultiAir engine emissions are low, ensuring receipt of Euro 5 emissions of just 142 g / km.

The development of active and passive safety.

Abarth's philosophy is to ensure the performance of sport in complete safety. For this reason, the Abarth Punto Evo is to improve the facilities that provide the best dynamic performance on any surface.

The icing on the cake is TTC Torque Transfer Control. This improves the transfer of torque to the wheels, in particular, guarantees excellent cornering, making the car safer and more entertaining during a sporty drive. Specifically, the TTC is a differential system that uses such technology as a reactive element, distribute torque through the braking system through the ESP sensors (wheel speed, steering angle, yaw, etc.).

The TTC is automatically activated in sport and self-regulates the level of block after the dynamic properties such as speed.

In the field of security, makes Punto Abarth Evo new standards because of its seven airbags including a driver's knee bag. It is one of very few cars in its segment with a knee bag for the driver as standard on all versions.

The Punto Abarth Evo brakes are powerful and effective. Disc brakes are fitted on all wheels. The front brakes are ventilated with Brembo twin-piston fixed. The suspension system is based on a tested configuration Abarth, the front is a MacPherson suspension and independent rear suspension is a continuous process (semi-independent) with a torsion beam. Compared with normal brake systems Abarth overhaul, anti-roll bar, oversized, and the front springs are 20% stiffer. These improvements provide impeccable road holding while maintaining a high degree of comfort.

Race-inspired aerodynamic developments.

What's the respect, the work of the Punto Abarth, Evo is designed to improve the performance of attention to aerodynamic considerations.

Compared to Fiat, the front bumper has been extended so that it works perfectly with side flaps and front valence is printed at the base to make room for the intake side, to guide and correct the air flow to improve significantly the aerodynamic flow , drawing inspiration from the rally version.

The completely redesigned rear bumper with side vents and diffuser includes a new badge, which is optimally channels the air flow. Compared to the previous version, the speaker is now without a frame to give more attention, and its appearance reflects the front splitter.

The dual exhaust is larger diameter, an obvious homage to the history of Abarth, and also different satin finish.

Reversing and rear fog functions were moved to the middle of the diffuser to draw attention, like in Formula 1. New face reflector frame and highlight the airfoil almost as if to reflect the effects of LEDs on the rear window.

Spoiler is a completely renewed in terms of color (it is now the same color as the body to make the lines of the car more consistent and dynamic) and, above all, its volume: the new time, the conical shape of the CX and CZ to improve performance, the Abarth Punto EVO more stable.

The "mustache" just around the logo has been completely revised and made more athletic because of the appearance of the grid. Similarly, the badge is no longer on the icon around the car before, but returned to the historical form already in the 500th Abarth

The side strips and side skirts in body color is to highlight the attitude of a car is very close to the ground. The side of graphic design is now part of the front bumper and it was changed to stabilize the proportions of the side panel making the surface color of the body slimmer. Another new feature has been redesigned wheel covers 17'' Abarth rays inspired by the symbol, the scorpion, which is also evident in the hubcaps.

The interior is completely renovated. Appearance and finishing materials used are similar to the road surface on the slopes, which takes the feeling of the track inside the cab.

The new central console is divided into two parts, a radio module with a glossy black finish, which is located in the middle of the LCD. Air conditioning can be found below, in a separate panel, the vents are above the storage space.

The instruments of conduct specifically caused by high speed counter function Jaeger faces, a new graphic design and sporty design the hood to protect against the Sun leather adorned with red stitching and yellow.

Jobs, the new structure is evident. Soft black leather is used to cut the seat and back in the same containment bands are cut in a hi-tech fabric to provide the right balance of comfort, breathability and abrasion resistance.

Just as before, you can still install the Abarth Racing monocoque Sabelt seats, which offer the best possible combination of features such as lightweight sports seats and the ability to hold the body in the presence of lateral and longitudinal forces.
